 Pskov is an ancient city located in the north-west of Russia about 20 kilometers (12 mi) east from the Estonian border, on the Velikaya River. It is a pretty town and is easy to navigate. At the heart of the city lies a riverside kremlin, encircled by old walls. Its magnificent cathedrals, old churches and museums will reveal unspoiled cultural treasures and provide a glimpse on life in pre-revolutionary Russia. Lovely parks strech along Velikaya's east bank and are a great place to stroll and explore.

While retaining much of its historical charm, Pskov has an updated tourist infrastructure. There are several hotels to choose from depending on budget,  some with high end amenities such as spas and an aqua center.

Getting to Pskov is easy. It is served by Pskov Airport with regular flights to Moscow (1 hour 20 minutes) and Europe through Riga (one hour). There are regular overnight trains from St. Petersburg and Moscow as well as direct buses from Tallinn and Riga.

There are a number of worthy places to visit within close proximity to Pskov. You could choose from either a unique experience of seeing century old traditions maintained in nearby villages, experience a Russian banya, visit a bee farm, enjoy a horseback ride, or take a scenic boat trip on Pskov lake.
